Throughout the Chosen and Hellhound books there has been a Nick-sized space just waiting to be filled and now we find out why. Macy Blake has teamed with her secret keeper, Casey Drake, to tell his story here in Give Him Hell.Nick is a strong, caring, complicated man and alpha lion who feels compelled to be a protector. He wants to solve the mystery of his early childhood, rescuing any other children that might still be held captive. In finally finding the house where he was imprisoned, Nick encounters Jedrek, one of the goddess's hellhounds, immediately feeling drawn to him. Nick's lion looks at Jedrek and thinks "Mate".Jedrek has been a hellhound for a long time, protecting the secrets of magic and the paranormal world. He is equally drawn to Nick, but initially resists, worrying that it is only the current situation and something Nick will regret it feel differently about later.Nick mates Jedrek early on, not understanding what biting him meant in the heat of the moment. When it's revealed though, they both soon recognize the rightness of their mating.It's difficult to say more about the book without getting into spoilers, so I'll just say that I absolutely loved this latest installment in the ongoing saga. Several of the pesky questions involving Mrs. Foote, the dark magic, and the children she held are answered and new questions raised. With this book Macy's world and it's characters expanded yet again, becoming even richer. Give Him Hell should not be missed, but it is definitely not a standalone, so anyone trying to pick it up from here will be confused. As always, my mind was blown by what was revealed while at the same time going "of course that's what has been going on". I see several more readings of this as I look for those small nuggets of information I might have missed so far. I can't wait for the next Chosen book to learn more.
